You’re a TV actor in Hollywood. You’re THERE because you’re young and hot. How do you make your living?
By making out with someone just as young and hot as you are, every week, feeding the fantasies of millions. Magic is bound to happen. And it does – again and again. Here are tales of love and passion, of actors who got it on onscreen – then kept right on going.
Sometimes it’s just for a season or so. But sometimes it’s the real thing. Sometimes it’s all the way to the wedding chapel.
The Vampire Diaries: Elena Gilbert And Damon Salvatore
He’s a vampire. She has been a human, a vampire, something called a Petrov doppelganger and is now in a coma – probably half from the confusion of it all. Together, they’ve formed a couple so popular with fans that they have a single name – ‘Delena.’
For three years, between 2010 and 2013, the actors behind the pair, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, were a real-life couple. This represented a peak for fan satisfaction, with tabloids spreading rumors that they might marry. It didn’t last.
But Delena isn’t dead just yet.
2 Broke Girls: Max Black & Johnny
It didn’t last long, but for a while there it sure generated a lot of heat. Kat Dennings and Nick Zano were an ‘It’ couple for a little less than two years during 2011-2012. It helped that this coincided with their characters being a couple on ‘2 Broke Girls.’
All that is lore now. We’re not sure whether that’s ‘Hollywood Lore’ or ‘Hipster Lore.’ Maybe a little of both.
Once Upon a Time: Prince Charming And Snow White
Ask Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin. When you’re playing Prince Charming and Snow White, there are Powers That Be steering you together. Sometimes it’s just supposed to be.
Acting together since 2011, Josh and Ginnifer have been a couple…since 2011. They’ve been married since 2014 and have two boys, Oliver and Hugo. May they live happily ever after!
Mad Men: Pete Campbell And Beth Dawes
Vincent Kartheiser and Alexis Bledel met on the set of ‘Mad Men’ in 2012. The heat they generated as married-but-cheating Pete and even more unhappily married Beth was all filmed before they started dating. But you can see the spark.
They started dating in the spring of 2012, after shooting ended. Two years later, they married quietly in Ojai, CA. In May of 2016 the couple welcomed a baby girl into the world.
And Pete reconciled with Trudy.
SupernaturalL Sam Winchester And Ruby
It’s all about the demon blood! Sam met Ruby, the girl from the WAY wrong side of the tracks, in 2009. Being a demon, Ruby was played by a few actresses, but once Genevieve Cortese took on the role, actor Jared Padalecki agreed with the show’s fans:
Someone special had arrived. The couple married in 2010. They’ve even played themselves – the lovingly wed actors – in an alternate-reality episode of the show.
They’re expecting their third child any minute now.
The O.C.: Seth Cohen And Summer Roberts
The O.C. was a teen favorite, and the real-life relationship between stars Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson was a big part of its ambiance. Fans rooted for the couple real and fictional, sometimes not much bothering to register the difference. Maybe it should have been seen as a bad sign when Adam and Rachel quietly broke up in 2006.
The show, and with it their onscreen romance, only survived the end of their off-screen romance by a year. Neither Adam nor Rachel has looked back, though. In fact, both are the parents of toddlers – hers, by partner Hayden ‘Darth Vader’ Christensen, his, by Leighton ‘Gossip Girl’ Meester.
The Americans: Phillip And Elizabeth Jennings
Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys have added domestic intrigue to the foreign intrigue of their hit show, ‘The Americans.’ They fell in love shortly after their tale of deep-cover Soviet spies started shooting in 2013. Both coyly avow that the show’s steamy sex scenes had nothing to do with it…but then, they all say that, don’t they?
Talk about going strong! In 2016, the couple welcomed a baby son, Sam, into the world. They began 2017 celebrating their both being nominated for Golden Globe Awards, though neither won – this time.
Even with current events at a boil, there hasn’t been this much heat between Russia and America since Soyuz met Apollo.
True Blood: Sookie Stackhouse And Bill Compton
The ‘True Blood’ set’s heat and humidity might have helped get things cooking between stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. They fell in love shooting their inter-species romance in 2009. They married the next year.
Since then, the couple has kept busy onscreen and off. They’re the proud parents off twin boys, Charlie and Poppy, both nearly five years old. There’s no word on which is more fairy and which more vampire.
Glee: Ryder Lynn And Marley Rose
‘Glee’ stars Blake Jenner and Melissa Benoist each had to move a prior relationship aside, but they connected in 2012. For a couple years, they were a favorite Hollywood item. They were engaged in 2013, then married.
Blake even followed Melissa to her next show, where he successfully wooed Supergirl herself. It all looked great from the outside, but theirs turned out not to be a love that could leap tall buildings in a single bound. They filed for divorce in 2016.
Revenge: Daniel Grayson And Emily Thorne
Josh Bowman and Emily VanCamp have been an item since ‘Revenge’ brought them together in 2011. Happily, it looks like ‘Revenge’ won’t be enough to break them up. They’d become perfectly happy with their on-and-offscreen romance.
Sadly, Bowman’s character Daniel took a bullet for VanCamp’s Emily, ending his run with the show. The death was as shocking for the couple as it was for the show’s fans, but it seems to have raised the series to an even higher level. As for the twosome at the center of it all, they’re still happily together.
Arrested Development: Gob Bluth And Bride Of Gob
Will Arnett and Amy Poehler were newlyweds when they played a married couple on ‘Arrested Development’ in 2004 and 2005. They’d started dating in 2000. As a married couple, they had children in 2008 and again in 2010.
The couple broke up in 2012. Sad, but 9 years together is a triumph by Hollywood standards. Good luck to each of them, and to their little Gob-lins as well.
Game Of Thrones: Jon Snow And Ygritte
Give it up, ‘Game of Thrones’ fans! If this were the days of the old Hollywood Studio system, you might well have been given just what you want: Kit Harington and Emilia ‘Mother of Dragons’ Clarke as a couple. This is today, though, and actors are free to live out – wait for it – their OWN lives.
Apparently, Kit Harington is a ‘one leading lady at a time’ guy. He and Rose Leslie fell for each other, on location beneath the Northern Lights, back in 2012. All rumors aside, they’re still very much a couple today.
Emilia Clarke? Just good friends.
Gilmore Girls: Rory Gilmore And Jess Mariano
When Alexis Bledel met Milo Ventimiglia on the ‘Gilmore Girls’ set in 2001, it was love at first sight. They officially became a couple at the end of 2002. The occasion of their ‘coming out’ was a Foo Fighters concert.
She would feed him her latest haute cuise masterpiece. He would make her mixed tapes. Alexis and Milo remained close enough that Hollywood wags would ask them about wedding bells, but they broke up in 2006.
That 70s Show: Michael Kelso And Jackie Burkhart
When ‘That ’70s Show’ premiered in 1998, Ashton Kutcher was 20 and Mila Kunis just 14. Their careers on the free-spirited comedy spanned from 1998-2006. Beginning in about 2004 it became obvious that ‘something hot was going on’ that wasn’t stopping when the director shouted ‘Cut!’
For a while, there was the small matter that she was dating Macauley Culkin, while he was married to Demi Moore. They didn’t officially become a couple until 2012. Their daughter, Wyatt, was born in 2014.
In 2016 the couple welcomed a boy, Dimitri.
